What will we do while our water is destroyed for future generations and all other life?

The other night I attended the Gas Land screening and talk with film maker Josh Fox, and Senator Antoine Thompson. The movie shows ecological devastation from the industrial process of hydro-fracking. Some highlights were: death by brain tumors, complete ecocide of streams, hair loss of animals (cats, horses) from the water, lighting tap water on fire, nose bleeds from methane leaks, unsafe levels of benzene, nitrogen oxides, and tourelene in the air and water, violent explosions in all aspects of the drilling and extraction process, vomiting, headaches, stomachaches, unexplainable serious illness, indiscriminate dumping into our limited water ways of a cocktail of 596+ chemicals, deregulation of the industry by the government, a Senate hearing in which industry representatives denied all adverse effects, skillful double talk by the Department of Environmental Protection in Pennsylvania and finally the acknowledgement of the benefits for the few on top of the multi billion dollar gas industry. read more

Opportunity To Tell the Oregon Water Resources Department to stop Nestle!

The Oregon Water Resources Department is considering a water transfer application for a water exchange that would effectively allow Nestl? to access water coming out of Mt. Hood National Forest and bottle it.

This is another significant step forward in Nestl?'s plan to profit off of Oregon's clean drinking water sources in the town of Cascade Locks in the Columbia River Gorge. The Oregon Water Resources Department has the power to stop this transfer and could effectively shut down Nestl?'s plan's to bottle Oregon's water.

They are accepting public comments now. Please take action by September 30th by using this action tool.

Desalination and the Alternatives: It's Up to the Community

Mother Jones Article Promotes Corporate Agribusiness Astroturfing

A poorly researched article on California water, the "New Dust Bowl," is online and appeared in the November-December edition of Mother Jones magazine, a publication known for its investigative reporting. Dan Bacher, an Indybay contributor and editor for Fish Sniffer, critiques the article, stating, "The 'New Dust Bowl' sounds just like a headline from the Sean Hannity Show or Fox 'News' - and the article reads like a propaganda piece for growers on the west side of the San Joaquin Valley."

Industrial Foam found in Bedford County Creek: Natural Gas Production Contamination Suspected

Foam has been found in Scheaffer Creek, a tributary of the Juniata River watershed which supplies Pennsylvania's capital. Springs and ponds downhill from Spectra Energy's drilling pads first showed the foam weeks ago. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has not tested for specific chemicals associated with natural gas drilling, and is telling residents that the foam is only laundry soap. Residents are worried that the cancer causing chemical 2-BE is present in their drinking water supplies.
