Mother's Day Actions Focus on Peace as Washington Continues War

09.05.2005

It's far from common knowledge in the U.S. that Mother's Day began as a protest against war. Presently in corporate America the day is celebrated by yet more shopping opportunities and greeting card sentiments a mile wide and an inch deep. None-the-less, real traditional Mother's Day events took place in San Francisco, Western Massachusetts, and in various other cities and towns across the nation.

However, as such actions focus on peace, Washington continues to pursue war. The war and occupation in Iraq, initiated through lies and deceptions by the Bush regime, may soon be followed by an air war against Iran. Given that the anti-war movement in the U.S. seems to be spinning its wheels and that the electoral system shows indications of being rigged, what's a mother to do? Start a revolution?
